Carmen Herrera will represent the national team in the Paralympics in Beijing

Our judo athlete, Carmen Herrera, 33, will again go to the Paralympics Games. In this case, the Alhaurín athlete, partially blind, will attend the Paralympics in Beijing, which will take place between 6 and 17 September and hopes to repeat the success of the Athens games 4 years ago. Yesterday she appeared in Malaga to the Andalusian delegation for these games, in which 14 members are of our area (10 athletes and four technicians).
Carmen Herrera will be the great Spanish asset in Beijing in the specialty of judo, and is supported by a great record. Without going any further, the athlete was world champion in the category of seventy pounds last year in Brazil.
Maria del Carmen Herrera Gomez, a native of Alhaurín de la Torre, counts among her successes a gold medal in the Paralympics in Athens in 2004, as well as Spain champion in various categories in 1996, 97, 98, 99 and 2003. She has European gold in 2001 and bronze in 1997. In addition to these judo prizes, Carmen participated as an athlete at the beginning of her career in discuss and javelin, where she was second.
She was named favourite daughter of the town in 2005, along with Vanessa Ortega. And both also received the title of Alhaurín with tradition in 1998.
