The technicians of the Board are favourable to the Churriana-Cártama road not being a highway.
The council will install a traffic light at the Cuatro Vientos Crossing with the Romeral neighbourhood to regulate the heavy traffic
July 22, 2008 .-
Recently, the mayor, Joaquín Villanova, held a meeting with technicians from the Directorate General of Highways, Regional Government of Andalusia in Malaga, which raised various issues of major importance for the infrastructure of our town. Specifically, the Governor expressed his wish that autonomous government could accelerate to the maximum the project of the road between Cártama-Churriana, A-7052, passing through Alhaurín de la Torre. This is one of the most travelled routes, with 13.000 vehicles that they cross it every day.
The mayor has proved to be relatively satisfied, since the technical personnel have admitted, in principle, the municipal suggestions of advancing this work and especially, of discarding the original idea of transforming it into highway and condition it to the municipal wishes as a four-lane way of urban road with two service in both directions, similar to the existing Churriana up from the junction with the N-340.
The mayor expressed concern that this road is not a scar that cut across the area and divide the territory, preventing or hampering communication between the townships north and south of that road, but quite the contrary, serves to link them and provide the logical link between them that is very intense. Reason for this is the argument that was presented to the Delegation of Urban and Public Works of the Board asking for this change, which the technicians have found very interesting and pledged to study and change the initial solution posed as a highway, especially taking into account that the two roads of communication that are already under way, the Ring Road of Malaga, which is still under construction, and the Distributor road -in period of adjudication-guarantee that communications with the capital and the coast are covered. Alhaurín de la Torre will be one of the municipalities best communicated in the province when this road splits and the current works of Hiperronda and the Distributor Road are finished, which are currently under way although very late on initial forecasts.
The council, which has no powers in that road, however, echoes the sentiments of the residents of the area and especially, has a sensitivity about the latest data published by the Directorate General of traffic, which considers this road as one of the main hot spots of the road network of Malaga, with two particularly dangerous stretches of 4 km to the 6.400, totalling 3 dead and 17 injured in 15 accidents last year.
In this sense, the other municipal request, the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Four Winds, between Santa Amalia and the entrance to Romeral, is being considered by the Board and seems it will get the necessary authorisation before 31 August. Excellent news after several years of claims by the council in this regard. The works of this remodelling of the crossing would be funded from the municipal coffers.
