• The first phase of this project aims to build structures with a capacity of 120 bikes.
Within the ambitious project from the Department of Environment developed to foster a better and sustainable urban mobility, today the work commenced on the first phase of a project to install bicycle parking lots near the public buildings in the town. This first phase of the initiative envisages building platforms with a total capacity for 120 bikes, spread over 20 structures with 6 single parking bars per platform. Operating Municipal Services are carrying out the installation, which has started in two of the most public buildings in the town centre: the Municipal Library and the Newspaper Library.
In the coming days, the bars will be provided in the estadio de fútbol Los Manantiales, the Centro de la Mujer and the Centro de Formación Jabalcuza, in the covered swimming poole, and the Centro Cultural Vicente Aleixandre, colleges and institutions of the city.The edil maintains that his department has decided to start this project because their users, are the most likely to use this mode of transport to travel, especially among young people. In addition, this initiative aims at a better sustainable urban mobility, in accordance with the recommendations and requirements of the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate Protection (RECC), and according to the spirit of the Environmental Education Program that the Councillor began implementing in colleges and institutes in the town, whose main objective lies in the promotion of healthy habits and sustainable mobility, and the use of bicycles for private transportation.
Finally, Bravo added that the next phases will lead to other such structures buildings and public places, which will be determined after a thorough feasibility study has taken place.
