The fire department extends its hours operating 24 hours a day

The proposed new park, scheduled to be built in Viñagrande is being processed. The number of fire officers will increase from 10 to 15 in August

On the 15th of July, the Fire Service of Alhaurin de la Torre became operational 24 hours a day, according to official confirmation received from the mayor, Joaquín Villanova.

With this announcement, the fire department ends its provisional status and operates 24 hours where before it only operated from 9 to 21 hours.

The alderman has expressed its satisfaction with this official announcement, which took several weeks to come to fruition, but was delayed because of "technical difficulties".

Among the major consequences of launching this 24 service will be that the the current staff of ten, will be increased to 15 in August, and gradually up to 24 which is the optimum figure needed. This will happen in due course.

The works of the future fire station, planned on a plot of 2,500 square meters in the area of Viñagrande, the deputy has confirmed that will be finalized during the summer with tender taking place next autumn according to the deputy. In this regard, in December 2007, the council of Alhaurín de la torre approved the transfer to the county council of this ground during december 2007. The financing of these works shall be provided by the Junta de Andalucía. Since July 2006, the fire department is located temporarily in a building on the industrial estate.

The facilities consist of two fire vehicles with 1,200 litres of water capacity and a van service, but will increase greatly when the new headquarters are built.

The Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos de Málaga, now has a staff of 187 troops and in less than two years will grow to compliment of 319 officer, all occupationally approved occupationally.
