A new parking service for workers will free more spaces on the surface
The City Council restores the old basement of the municipal building to enable 50 parking spaces to be used by employees and official vehicles.
The councillor of Operational Services of the Municipality, in coordination with the Area for Municipal Organization, have developed the old basement of the town hall and subbasement of the new Social Service Centre to enable underground parking for private cars of municipal employees and part of the fleet of the Consistory. The new space, which will become operational in a few days and has the use of 2,000 square meters, will free up places on the surface in the vicinity of the Punto Industrial area for the parking of citizens and visitors, given that the new facility can absorb about 50 cars and several dozens ofmotorcycles from officials of the Local Administration. It will provide temporary storage of vehicles compounded by the Police.
Over the past several months, Operational Services have completed work on upgrading and rehabilitating the main basement, which became available in 2006 after the inauguration of the new headquarters of SS. OO in the Carranque neighbourhood, and have proceeded to the recovery of spaces and the tasks of painting and lighting, as well as the communication of this basement with the basement of the new building of Social Affairs. Thus, many of the City Hall employees can park early in the morning and during the late sift on the recently completed installation, which will allow that the area of the Consistory, where the bulk of municipal services are concentrated, will be released from space throughout the day and will provide parking for users and neighbours in general, as well as to ease the heavy traffic, which often coincides with peak hours in the morning.
Likewise, the work has included the expansion of the Municipal Archive, which has added to its other facilities 200 square metres extra, ensuring sufficient space for the next six years.
The work of recovering the basements also include several stores with different surface for municipal use, toilets and public areas, as well as a complete system of ventilation and dehumidification.
The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, and council members for Operating Services and Organization, Juan Jose Gonzalez and Rafael Gomez, among others, visited the new facilities.
