A sculpture pays tribute to the Pena Flamenca Torre del Cante in its 30th anniversary
This popular recognition of one of the most veteran cultural institutions adds to the appointment as Favourite Daughter in the year 2000

At noon today has been presented a sculpture, designed by the renowned artist Sandra Martinez Cespedes, with whom the council of Alhaurin de la Torre just pays tribute to the institution of Pena Flamenca Torre del Cante, Daughter of the town since 2000, at the request of the Department of Culture. The monument completes, to an end, the well-deserved recognition of the village of Alhaurín of one of the most important cultural and influential entities of the whole province of Malaga, founded on June 27, 1978.
At the presentation of the sculpture attended the mayor, Joaquín Villanova, with the rest of councillors of the Municipal Corporation, the chairman of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Salvador Pendón, the president of Torre del Cante, Mary-Donaire real advocates of This initiative, coupled with almost all former presidents and managers, as well as members of the club and representatives of social and cultural life. Also have come the veteran flamenco singer, V Llave de Oro del Cante, the teacher Fosforito, together with his wife.
The work, which is large, has been designed and developed by one of the most prolific sculptors and potters in the province, also author of several murals and pieces (School of Music, Centre for Women, Greater Social Centre ) the Monument to the fallen in the Civil war, the figure of The Butterfly (Roundabout Ermita del Cerro), and the sculpture of El Barco (roundabout la travesía urbana a la altura de Retamar). This artist has an important curriculum of artistic work in medium and large format located in public areas, parks and gardens from different parts of the province, besides Alhaurin de la Torre.
On this occasion, the monument of honouring flamenco, its festival and its supporting groups, "as a sign of holy and noble art and how good a name has Alhaurin de la Torre"-The mayor has expressed-is a piece with iron cage and stuffed with ceramic coating, and symbolizes the tower and the guitar that they make the official shield of the Pena Flamenca since its inception. It has a height of 2.5 meters by 1.5 wide and weighing one ton. The strings of the instrument are made of copper. at the base appear legends' Pena Flamenca' and' Torre del Cante’ 'and' Alhaurin de la Torre 'on the sides.
The mayor has confirmed to be installed in the garden area located at the corner of Avenue Isaac Peral with the avenue de La Vega, next to the bar Balbuena. There will be built a pedestal for the sculpture .
All authorities, especially Pendón and Fosforito master himself, have shown their pride and satisfaction over the meaning of this tribute to the institutional Pena Flamenca, undisputed protagonist of the strength of flamenco throughout Spain and Andalusia, thanks to the festival Torre del Cante, Which carries 35 editions, most of them promoted by that entity, "with many efforts and sacrifices over all these years."
For her part, President of la Pena, has been grateful to the Council who has fulfilled the order of realizing the monument, has reported emotionally her experiences since, very small, she started getting mad with the festival and with the flamenco. she has also narrated the history of the institution since it was founded exactly 30 years ago to today. "This monument is for all , for those who created and then retained and made it a fundamental and indispensable pillar of the Culture of Alhaurin de la Torre."
