He releases his new book about Sebastian Roca who helped set up the newspaper ‘La Unión Mercantil’ and was assassinated in 1936. His descendants attended.
The prolific researcher based in Alhaurin de la Torre, Carlos San Millán, has released a new book about one of the most exciting and unknown people in our recent history: Sebastian Roca Ortega, considered the first Press correspondent in our locality. He collaborated for nearly a decade in the largest newspaper in the province of Malaga in the first half of the twentieth century, ‘La Unión Mercantil’.
The presentation of the book took place last Friday at the Centro Cultural Vicente Aleixandre, during an emotional ceremony attended by his direct descendants , some of whom have been essential in researching this book by providing testimony and documentation: including his sons, nieces, nephews-grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives, as well as University professors and people linked to the world of culture. This biography, in the words of author, "transcends his personal courage and goes to become a witness of an era difficult to address." Indeed this books is an exceptional witness to the events in the tumultuous first quarter of the twentieth century and that, unfortunately led to his death when he was assassinated in 1936, only a few days since joining as clerk of Atajate.
The book has 290 pages in color, with numerous photographs and official documents. It costs 10 euros and is available in bookstores in the locality and the Cultural Center.
